Take a Look at What We Do

At Mama Bear we work in the streams and wetlands on and near the shoreline of Glen
Lake, the largest of 23 inland lakes in the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, voted 2011’s “Good Morning America’s Most Beautiful Place In America” as well as being remembered by many Glen Lake area residents as having been named one of the most beautiful lakes in the world in an old National Geographic Magazine article.

For almost 15 seasons, Mama Bear has worked passionately—using native plants—to restore the lake’s shorelines and in the process: enhance the lakeshore’s beauty; improve water quality; provide habitat for native birds, butterflies, frogs, and other critters; prevent shoreline erosion; and most of all protect the rare Michigan Monkey Flower (Mimulus michiganensis), a special plant that is listed as critically globally imperiled by NatureServe.

Here we are doing what we do best as well as some of the results of our efforts.
